»Change«

»I create abstract paintings that move
with sounds that stand still.«

In my work, I document processes of change that arise from conscious impulses and unfold beyond control – fleeting, unrepeatable moments of becoming and passing away.

artist statement

»The why«

My artistic work reflects what I have experienced many times in my life. My life was and is characterised by shattering changes. The loss of loved ones, life-threatening events and drastic experiences.

Of all the options available to me to deal with this, I decided to surrender to the course of events and accept what had happened.

I realised that this was an opportunity to develop myself. These experiences have shaped me and I transfer them to art.

The more I try to exert control, the more I restrict myself and therefore also my work. The both of us become unfree. But if I can let go and am open to the process, then I can let things happen more easily and am not stuck to an idea.

It is the freedom of the work and the freedom of the viewer that are allowed to resonate with each other. A level of conversation without words, a dialogue based on feelings.

»The what«

In my work, I dissolve the boundaries between painting, film and photography. What I create are abstract paintings that move with sounds that stand still.

My works are an excerpt from a continuous flow of events and transformations. In my films there is neither a beginning nor an end. My theme is change. It is about becoming and passing away.

One thing leads to another and is not possible without the previous one and then itself becomes the starting point for change.

My films document these natural processes, which would never have taken place without my impetus.

They only happen once and cannot be repeated. I consciously pick out individual moments from this flow and show them as photographs. Each of these moments is an expression of a transformation.

»The how«

I create the framework conditions for my artistic work, set an impulse and let things develop. Like a gardener planting a seed. It is a path into the open that is not controlled by my imagination.

I start with my head and end with my senses, trying to quiet my mind and allow my feelings to develop.

I try to concentrate on the present moment.

Nothing should distract me during the creative process, neither thoughts of success nor failure.

With the help of enlargements and slow-motion shots, I provide insights into processes that would otherwise remain hidden from the eye.
